For this project, I was tasked to create a title sequence based on an existing novel. I decided on E.M. Carroll’s When I Arrived at the Castle, a dark, erotic graphic novel about a cat-eared woman who seeks to murder a vampiric Countess. I sought out to replicate the tone and feeling to the novel, being inspired by the artstyle and other sequences such as Feud: Bette and Joan and Catch Me If You Can. The concept was brought to life by the animations I created, detailing the plot through simplistic cutouts of the characters and environment. The song chosen for this sequence was The Marias’ Hush, best described as a sultry and dark anthem that reflected both my concept and the novel itself.
